Other chains
Other chains change the speed, the fee, the language, and who runs the validators. They do not change the check.
A faster chain is still a set of people and a set of rules. Run the same three questions.
A worked case
A chain advertises itself as cheaper and more decentralised. Ten companies run the validators. A court writes to those companies. The chain halts. The speed was real. The claim that nobody could stop it was not.
What changes
Some chains confirm faster. Some are cheaper to spam, which also makes some attacks cheaper. Some are run by a small, known set of validators. A small set is easier to pressure.
What stays
A copied name is still copied. A seed is still the wallet. An exchange balance is still not your keys.
Do not trust a chain because it is new, fast, or cheap. Cheap can mean the cost of cheating is low.
Faster blocks, same three questions
After Ethereum, a long list of chains offered cheaper fees, faster blocks, or a different language for contracts. Solana is the one people name most often. It has also stopped. Through 2022 and into later years the network halted for hours at a time, and the foundation and outside reporting described restarts. A halt does not delete the idea of a fast chain. It measures the claim that nobody can stop it. A small enough set of operators can stop producing blocks, or be told to.
Other chains change who pays, how concentrated the validators are, and which bridge you must trust to arrive with dollars from somewhere else. They do not change the check. Who is paid the fees and the token subsidies. Who can upgrade the client or the bridge. Who can halt withdrawals or censor a transaction. A homepage that says decentralised is an advertisement until you can count the operators.
You do not need a ranking of chains. You need the habit of asking those three questions on a chain you have never heard of, because the next one will use the same adjectives.
