The school
Words
One sentence each. The link is the course. A definition is not a reason to buy anything.
- Address
- A shorter public name for a key. Safe to show. It is not the seed.
- Admin key
- A key that can change the program after you have deposited. The address you saved can start meaning new code.
- Approval
- Permission for a contract to move a token later. The dangerous step often looks like nothing happened.
- Bridge
- A lock on one chain and a stand-in on another. The chain you arrive on cannot save the lock.
- Candle
- A picture of trades that already happened. It is not the next trade.
- Confirmation
- A block that includes your transaction. Pending is not final. One confirmation is a start.
- Deposit
- A claim on a bank, or on a firm using the word. The number on the screen is their ledger.
- Exchange
- A company in the middle. Deposit, trade, and withdraw are three different steps.
- FDV
- Price times every coin that could exist, including the ones not trading yet.
- Fee
- What you pay to get in and to get out. A small hope can be smaller than the fees.
- Funding
- A fee between longs and shorts so a perpetual stays near the spot price. It can run all night.
- Gas
- The chain's fee for doing the work. A failed transaction can still cost it.
- Hash
- A fingerprint of some data. Change one character and the fingerprint changes.
- Honeypot
- A token you can buy and cannot sell. The buy working was the bait.
- Hot wallet
- Keys on a phone or a browser, online, ready to sign. Spending money, not the vault.
- Interest
- A fee someone pays you to leave the money with them. A high number still has a payer.
- KYC
- A firm tying an account to a person. Also how an account gets stuck. It is never a reason to send a seed.
- Leverage
- A position larger than the money you put up. Past a line, it is closed for you.
- Liquidity pool
- Coins left in a contract so other people can swap. You can earn fees and still leave with less than if you had held.
- Market cap
- Price times the coins already trading. The quieter number. FDV is often the larger one.
- Memecoin
- A token whose product is attention. Attention does not say who can mint more.
- Multisig
- More than one key must agree before the money moves. The keys have to be real, and separate.
- NFT
- A token id that points at something, often a picture. You can own the token and not the picture.
- Node
- A computer keeping the chain's history. A website is someone else's report of it.
- Oracle
- The feed that tells a contract a price. If the feed lies, the contract acts on the lie.
- Peg
- A claim that a token will stay near a dollar. A claim is not a guarantee you can redeem it.
- Private key
- The secret that can move the record. The seed can rebuild it. There is no reset.
- Rug
- The pool, or the exit, pulled out from under a token. Your balance can still show on screen.
- Seed
- The words that rebuild the keys. Anyone who has them can move the money. They do not belong in a chat.
- Share
- A legal claim on a company. A coin is not a share unless a document you can read says so.
- Signature
- Proof the private key approved one message. Connecting a wallet is not the signature. The signature can be the payment.
- Slippage
- The gap between the price you saw and the price you got. Your size can cause it.
- Spread
- The gap between the price to buy and the price to sell. It is a cost, even when the fee looks like zero.
- Stablecoin
- A token that claims to stay near a dollar. Someone can still freeze the address.
- Wallet
- Software that holds keys, not a pile of coins. The seed is the backup. Lose the seed and the record stays, unmovable.
- Yield
- A high number with a source: fees, a subsidy of new coins, or new deposits. Name the source.
