Permits
A permit is a signature that sets an approval. The wallet may say sign, not approve. The effect can be the same.
The wallet said sign. The token heard an approval.
A worked case
A site asks for a signature to log in. The message is a permit for the token. Nothing moves in that second. Later the allowance does. The person remembers a login. The token remembers a spender.
The letter
Some tokens let a signed message grant a spender an allowance. You did not send a transaction. You signed. The allowance can still move the token later.
The screen
If the screen shows a hash and not the spender, you do not know the letter. A signature you do not understand is still a signature.
The signature was the allowance
EIP-2612 describes a permit: a signed message that sets a token allowance, so a spender can be approved without a separate approval transaction. The wallet shows a signature. The token records a spender.
Later, the spender transfers. The person who signed remembers a login. The allowance was the point of the message. Read the spender before the signature, not after the transfer.
Read it yourself
These links are the record. They are not a recommendation, and they are not instructions. A news story or a court paper can still be wrong about a detail. The check does not change because a famous name is in the story.
Apply the check
Open a question. The line is about this topic. It is not a verdict that anything is safe.
The spender named in the permit.
The token's rules, and the site that wrote the message.
The allowance, until it expires or is revoked.
Check yourself
Write it in your own words. The course's answer opens after that. Nothing is sent.
After this you can read who the signature allows to spend, before you sign.
